A soothing bubble
Katzenthal is a village nestled in a small valley where the road ends. Here you can choose between the soothing warmth of the wine-growing hillsides and the freshness of the nearby forest. On the edge of the route to Santiago de Compostela, just opposite the Wineck castle – the only one in Alsace to be surrounded by vines – you can enjoy a rejuvenating “bubble time”. We’ll be happy to share our best spots with you: marked hiking, biking and mountain-biking trails, a running paradise in a regional nature park! Alsace is rich in culture in all seasons, and we’re always on hand to offer unusual suggestions. Colmar is 6km away, Strasbourg and Basel 40 minutes by train.
An introduction to the cultivation of vines and natural wine
Grandfather Joseph made his wine just like his father and grandfather, climbing to the top of the hills with his hood of manure on his back! Father Bernard joined the Cave Coopérative following the complete destruction of the village at the end of 1944, and went on to set up a small wine-making business, buying the village’s 1st tractor, a Massey Fergusson, in 1956. Clément, his son, left the cooperative and became a 100% winegrower again in 1979, forming an association and then creating Vignoble KLUR in 1999, totally dedicated to organic and biodynamic viticulture. In 2019, the family embarked on a “joyful decline”, retaining 2ha of vines. Elisa settled in 2020 and took over this micro-domain, combining the magic of natural wine fermentation with the creation of fermented materials in the workshop, and showcasing them in space jewelry and wearables. Connect to artist-in-residence workshops
Here, artists, authors and researchers question the complex links that bind us all to the places we’ve lived in, dreamed about or lost. They restore them in a sensitive way, in plastic, visual or written form… This place, where you are welcome, has transformed us as much as we have transformed it, and it continues to question us. Our experience feeds our artistic explorations, and vice versa. @katzetcompagnie is a small collective that has been based here since 2024, welcoming artists, enabling them to create without constraint, to exchange with you, and to involve you in workshops.
